FREC 4
The Level 4 Certificate: patient assessment and management, emergency trauma care, focused emergency and urgent care, and ECG recognition.
The Qualsafe Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care is the step up from FREC 3, and a much longer qualification — three components delivered over a substantially larger total qualification time, assessed by workbooks, skills tests, practical assessments and two invigilated exams. One of those exams is ECG recognition, which is why rhythm recognition gets a topic of its own here. The level 4 content revisits assessment, trauma and medical care at a depth FREC 3 does not: the same patient, examined more closely.
The 4 topics
Each topic has a free study guide covering what it examines. 2 of them also has a free quiz on this site.
Patient Assessment
Assessment, triage and vital signs at level 4, the structure and conduction of the heart, coronary artery disease, and supraglottic airways and medical gases.
Emergency Trauma Care
Respiratory, musculoskeletal and nervous system anatomy, thoracic trauma and the systematic survey, and two exceptional incident types: sexual assault and major incidents.
Focused and Urgent Care
Paediatric development and the sick or injured child, adult medical conditions including mental health, respiratory illness and sepsis, plus childbirth and assisting a clinician.
ECG Recognition
Sinus rhythms, atrial and supraventricular rhythms, ventricular rhythms and ectopy, conduction abnormalities, and arrest and ACS patterns.
How this level is examined in the app
The app treats each level as its own qualification. Its 40-question, 60-minute mock test draws only on this level's own 202 questions — a mock that mixed in another one while you are revising this would tell you nothing useful.
The other levels
All in the same app — one purchase covers all 2.
