FREC 3
The Level 3 Award: scene and patient assessment, airway and resuscitation, trauma care, medical emergencies, and the anatomy underneath them.
The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care is the qualification most UK first responders, event medics and ambulance service staff hold, and the entry requirement for FREC 4. It is built from three components — foundations of prehospital emergency care, of prehospital trauma care, and of prehospital emergency medical care — assessed by an invigilated exam, a multiple choice question paper and a set of practical assessments. The app adds a fourth topic the specification assumes rather than teaches: the anatomy and physiology the clinical content rests on.
The 4 topics
Each topic has a free study guide covering what it examines. 2 of them also has a free quiz on this site.
Foundations of Emergency Care
The responder’s role, scene safety and triage, airway assessment and management, medical gases, and resuscitation with an AED.
Foundations of Trauma Care
Mechanism of injury and blood loss, chest injuries and wounds, shock, burns and poisoning, and spinal, head and musculoskeletal injury.
Foundations of Medical Care
Assessing and handing over an unwell patient, breathing difficulties and major illness, the unresponsive or convulsing patient, and environmental emergencies.
Anatomy and Physiology
The respiratory, cardiovascular, nervous and musculoskeletal systems, plus the digestive, endocrine, integumentary and reproductive systems FREC touches on.
How this level is examined in the app
The app treats each level as its own qualification. Its 40-question, 60-minute mock test draws only on this level's own 383 questions — a mock that mixed in another one while you are revising this would tell you nothing useful.
The other levels
All in the same app — one purchase covers all 2.
