NEBDN post-registration certificate
Dental Radiography
Physics and dose, IR(ME)R duties, projection technique, image faults and radiographic anatomy.
The certificate that lets a dental nurse take radiographs. It is the most heavily regulated of the four, and the assessment reflects that: alongside how an x-ray beam is produced and what it does to tissue, you are expected to know who holds which duty under IR(ME)R 2017, what the employer’s procedures must contain, and what happens when an exposure goes wrong. The clinical half covers intra-oral and panoramic technique, image quality rating, and the anatomy you have to recognise on a film before you can say whether it is diagnostic.
The 5 topics
Each topic has a free study guide covering what it examines. 1 of them also has a free quiz on this site.
Physics and Dose
X-ray production, dose quantities and limits, biological effects, justification and optimisation.
IR(ME)R and Legal Duties
Duty holders and their functions, justification and authorisation, employer’s procedures and records.
Projection and Technique
Intra-oral technique and holders, panoramic preparation, receptors, shielding, and dental CBCT.
Faults and Quality Assurance
Image quality rating, positioning, exposure and processing faults, QA testing and reject analysis.
Radiographic Anatomy
Maxillary and mandibular landmarks, panoramic shadows, and the developing dentition on film.
How this certificate is examined in the app
The app treats each certificate as its own qualification. Its 75-question, 90-minute mock test draws only on this certificate's own 220 questions — a mock that mixed in orthodontics while you are revising radiography would tell you nothing useful.
The other certificates
All in the same app — one purchase covers all four.
Oral Health Education
Caries and periodontal prevention, diet, fluoride, and the behaviour change techniques that make advice stick.
Dental Sedation Nursing
Sedation drugs, patient assessment and consent, monitoring and equipment, and recovery and discharge.
Orthodontic Dental Nursing
Occlusal classification and development, removable, fixed and functional appliances, materials and retention.
